A Peaceful Visit to Chor-Bakr in Bukhara May 12, 2025
Today, I visited the Chor-Bakr complex in Bukhara. It was a quiet and beautiful place, perfect for learning and thinking. Chor-Bakr is located a few kilometers outside the city, and it is known as the “City of the Dead.” But don’t worry — it’s not scary at all. In fact, it is calm and full of history.
As I walked through the area, I saw old trees, beautiful buildings with domes, and lovely designs made of bricks and tiles. The buildings are simple but very pretty. The wooden columns and decorations show the traditional style of Uzbekistan’s architecture.
What I liked most was the peaceful feeling. It was quiet and relaxing, far from the busy city. Some people come here to pray, others just sit and think. It’s a great place to feel calm and connected.Chor-Bakr is not just a historical site — it’s still alive today with meaning. Locals continue to visit for Friday prayers, to recite the Quran for the souls of the buried, or just to find a quiet moment for themselves. It reminds us of the value of reflection, respect for the past, and the importance of preserving our heritage. Personally, this visit touched me deeply. I felt as though I had stepped into another world — far from the noise and speed of daily life. The peaceful environment helped me clear my mind and feel more connected to my roots. I spent some time sitting under a tree, simply listening to the wind and thinking about how many generations had passed through this place. It made me appreciate the strength and wisdom of our culture and how places like Chor-Bakr continue to inspire people today. If you ever visit Bukhara, I highly recommend taking time to visit Chor-Bakr. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, spirituality, or just need a quiet place to think, this sacred complex offers something truly special. It’s a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful journeys are not about going far — but about going deep.
